Coinbase Launches Bridge for Ethereum Layer-2 Solution
US-based crypto exchange platform Coinbase has announced the launch of a bridge for its Ethereum ( ETH ) layer-2 scaling solution, called Base. The project is powered by the blockchain-scaling solution Optimism ( OP ) and is also slated to launch its mainnet on August 9th.
Base Festival Celebrates Launch Of Bridge
To help kick off the launch of the bridge, Base is throwing the first ever on-chain summer festival. According to Base, to bridge to the layer-2 scaling solution, users can go through their official website or use various web3 protocols such as Galxe, Layer3, or mint.fun to mint a non-fungible token (NFT).
Mainnet Ready For Developers
Last month, Base opened up its mainnet to developers and completed internal and external security audits in anticipation of its launch next week. Coinbase noted their goal is to onboard over a billion people into the crypto economy and there are no plans to launch a network token associated with Base.
Base Aims To Make On Chain The Next Online
The goal of Base is stated as making on chain “the next online” in order to onboard one billion+ users into the cryptoeconomy. This would be done both through Coinbase’s own on-chain products but also providing an open ecosystem where anyone can build.
No Network Token For Base
As previously mentioned by Coinbase, there are no plans to launch a network token associated with Base at this time. They continue their mission of trying to onboard users into the cryptoeconomy without requiring them purchase any tokens or be exposed specifically to cryptocurrency markets at all.
